完成學業的夢

First, educate you hands and your minds. You belong to a church which espouses education.... Get all the education you can. Train yourselves to make a contribution to the society in which you will live. There is en essence of the divine in the improvement of the mind....

I would wish that all of you women... would not have to go out into the marketplace to labor for income. But I know that for some of you this may be a necessity, and you will be better equipped to do so if your hands and minds are trained. Furthermore, whether it is applied to earning a living or not, education is an investment that never ceases to pay dividends of one kind or another.

接受教育是很重要的事,年青時我錯過了,辜負了雙親及老師們對我的期望,並且因為學識的不足一度使自己的生活充滿壓力。過往幾年一直希望重拾書本,奈何因為家庭角色的轉變,外面提供的種種專業課程都不再適合自己--譬如說大哥出生時我在公開大學修讀了二十個學分的翻譯課程,假使現在我繼續完成它,取得翻譯的學位,我也不可能(也不會放下小豬們)再接全職的翻譯工作,那麼我應該堅持完成這個學位?還是應該放棄呢?

這份掙扎,加上早幾年經濟緊張,所以一直未有提起。

上星期發現學校開辦家長副學士課程,修畢後只要再在其他高級課程額外修讀四十個學分,我便可以取得通識學士學位。除了圓畢業的夢,這個學位提供了一個基礎,讓我可以再讀其他一度非常有興趣,但沒資格讀的課程,例如心理學、幼兒和特殊教育、護理學--孩子長大,除了在教會服務,我盼望有足夠的能力,可以在特殊教育方面作點貢獻。

以我每年修畢十個學分的速度,待雪雪中學畢業,我也應該完成了最基本的學業了。說不定還可以和她一起拍畢業照哩。
